Il Cicalino

Il Cicalino is located in the hills above the Singerna Valley sitting in excess of 30 hectares of private woodland on a private gated estate. The traditional Tuscan house has been converted from an agricultural building, the conversion has been carried out sympathetically and to a very high standard with the use of original materials and methods of construction. The feature arched windows and doors ensure the house is constantly filled with natural light. The ceilings feature chestnut beams and traditional “pianelle in cotto” terracotta clay tiles, which are also used on the floors throughout the house. The tranquil position of the house, described by previous guests as 'Tuscan paradise' contains an abundance of wildlife for guests to sit and observe amongst the wonderful shrubs, roses, olive and fig trees. 

Il Cicalino is located in an area known as Valtiberina, just 10 km away from the beautiful award winning hill top town of Anghiari, recently designated as one of the 10 most beautiful hilltop "borghi" in Italy, also renowned for the famous battle painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. The area, historically populated by Etruscan, is rich in interesting places to visit, such as Città di Castello, Cortona and Arezzo. The local town of Sansepolcro just a short drive away is the birthplace of several painters, among them Piero della Francesca. Many other traditional Italian towns of beauty can be easily reached from the property, with Florence only a 1.5 hours’ drive away. 

The area has inspired the three greatest artists of the Renaissance. Caprese Michelangelo is only 10 minutes’ drive from the house, the great artist Michelangelo was born and lived in this village, you will discover the chapel where he was baptized and a museum dedicated to him is within the Castle of Michelangelo. Also, nearby is La Verna the Franciscan monastery retreat where St Francis of Assisi is said to have received the stigmata. A beautiful place to visit, filled with history where you can enjoy stunning views. 

The house features an exceptionally well equipped kitchen with everything necessary to prepare everything from antipasto to a complete traditional Italian dinner. The stunningly beautiful award winning town of Anghiari is only a short drive away where fresh local ingredients can be bought, including a bakery where you can buy tradition Tuscan bread and cakes. In addition, there is an abundance of fresh herbs for guests to use when using fresh local produce to create Tuscan cuisine. 

The lounge and dining area feature two pairs of doors which lead out onto the spectacular terrace which has covered seating and is perfect for alfresco dinning, a pre-dinner Aperitivo or a leisurely breakfast, whist taking in the beautiful views of the valley.  A lavender path leads from the terrace to the larger than usual swimming pool. This area of the property is equipped with bar, barbecue and pizza oven to enjoy quiet, peaceful evenings in the tranquility of the Tuscan hills making wonderful memories. 

The rooms within the house have been furnished to a very high standard of quality and comfort and feature fabric from Busatti of Anghari, who have been weaving in the cellars of the Palazzo Morgalanti in Anghiari since 1842.  The bed linen was custom made and designed by Bussati using the finest quality cotton.

On the first floor the house has three double bedrooms accessed from the galleried landing, the master has an ensuite bathroom and also access to the second floor mezzanine in the tower with 360-degree views of the property. There is a second bathroom on the first floor.

Through every window of the house you can enjoy stunning views of the real Tuscany.
